Stapleton Community Garage Sale

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the sale?

The 2012 Stapleton Community Garage Sale will be held Saturday, July 21 and Sunday, July 22, 2012, 8am - 1pm.

Where is the Stapleton Community Garage Sale?

Residents throughout Stapleton will be having sales at their homes. A map/list will be available to download online a couple of days before the sale.

Is there a cost to participate?

No! All the costs (signs, advertising, maps, etc) are being paid by The Kearns Team at RE/MAX of Cherry Creek.

I don't have enough stuff for my own sale. Can I still participate?

Why not gather your neighbors together and have a group sale at someone's home?

Will there be signs posted?

Yes. Signs will be avaialable for participants prior to the sale. When you register we will provide infomation on how and when you can pick up a sign.

Where can I put the yard sign?

Generally speaking, you can put a sign on your property, between your home and the sidewalk. DO NOT PUT A SIGN IN THE TREE LAWN (the area between the sidewalk and the street), as this is illegal in Denver.

If you live in a home with an HOA sub-association (i.e. a condo, townhouse, or home facing a courtyard), please check with your HOA sub-association before putting up a sign. We have been notified by some sub-associations that they do not allow signs, so we can't deliver them to those homes.

Will the sale be advertised?

Yes. We usually have an article or two in the Front Porch prior to the sale. There will also be ads in the Denver Post and a posting on Craig’s List.

Should I hold my sale in my alley or in my front yard?

This one is largely a matter of personal preference. A sale in your front yard will have more visibility and attract "drive-by" shoppers. A sale in your garage provides a good place to set everything up in advance and protection in case of foul weather. For either location, be a good neighbor and talk to the folks who live near you. Let them know you're having a sale since it might inconvenience them... and they just might decide to join in!

My home faces a common courtyard. Can I have the sale there?

Residents with homes on courtyards (i.e. KB and Wonderland) should check with their neighbors and their HOA before holding a sale there.

I've never held a garage sale. Do you have any tips?

Check out our Garage Sale Tips sheet!

What should I do with unsold items after the sale?

PLEASE don't just leave items at the curb with a "free" sign - we've heard stories of people picking up OTHER items, thinking they were free. Each year we participate with a local charity to arrange for donations of unsold items. For 2012, we are excited to be partnering with the new Goodwill Store in Stapleton. More details will be available prior to the sale.

I want to participate! How do I sign up?

Registration for the Sale generally begins in late-May, via an online form at www.BuildingStapleton.com/garagesale. The last day to register for the sale, and be included on the map, is one week prior to the sale date.
